Placement exclusions for Google Ads

Cut junk inventory in Display, Video and Performance Max. Start with the safe catch-all exclusion, add your own placements and tick off the brand-safety settings.

Where placement exclusions go

Google Ads → pick account or campaign → Content → Exclusions → Placements → paste. Account level is recommended so it covers every campaign.

Build your exclusion list

Effectively excludes all impressions inside mobile apps — the biggest source of Display waste (fat-finger clicks in game apps etc.).

Pull candidates from Google Ads › Content › Where ads showed — exclude high-cost, poor-performing placements.

These aren't excluded as placements but under the campaign's Content settings → Excluded content / Content labels / App categories. Use the list as a checklist.

Why exclude placements in Google Ads?

On Display, Video and Performance Max your ads run automatically across millions of sites and apps. A large share is low-quality "junk inventory" — game apps with mis-clicks, MFA/arbitrage sites and content you don't want to be associated with. Excluding app inventory (adsenseformobileapps.com) and setting brand-safety exclusions is the fastest way to cut waste.

Always review the placement report before excluding at scale — legitimate sites can get caught.
